Tooth-Colored Filings and Amalgrams
Many years ago, when a patient had a cavity and needed a filling, gold or an amalgam was used. However, in this day and age, you want a filling that will match the color of your current teeth. Dr. Goll places tooth-colored fillings to fill cavities or perfect the shape of a tooth that may be chipped so that it aesthetically matches the rest of your teeth. For those interested in silver or gold fillings, we are more than happy to accommodate you, though it has become far more popular to replace these. Fortunately, silver fillings can safely be replaced with tooth-colored restorations.
Advantages of Tooth-Colored Restorations
There are many advantages to tooth-colored restorations. Resin onlays (restoration made of gold or porcelain composite which covers one or all of the cusps of a posterior tooth) are bonded to the teeth creating a tight, superior fit to the natural tooth. Such restorations can be used in instances where much of the tooth structure has been lost allowing the tooth to remain intact and stronger.
